What is the best time to take a cruise to Bahamas?

My husband and I are looking at taking a cruise to the Bahamas. He has been on one before, but I have not. We were looking at going in September for our anniversary but I worry about Hurricanes. When would actually be the best time to go?? We would like to cruise without HUGE crowds so we thought that September would be perfect. Any suggestions would be great! Thank you!
 
You're dead on. Don't worry about hurricanes- very unlikely that a hurricane would make it to a cruise ship before help was made. Usually, late summer is best, becuade most people want to sail over cold winters or over summer with kids out of school. Septmeber is perfect. AVOID going July, April, March, January, December. Have fun! However, NEvER EVER go over spring breaks!!!
