What is the best type of SUV for a 16-17 year old boy?

My dad travels to car auctions and gets cars really cheap then sells them to used car dealers, so money isnt a problem unless it is a really expensive car. It needs to be safe and get decent gas mileage. I am looking for a sporty SUV. I like the toyotas but most of their SUV's, if not all of them, are considered a girl's car. So just give me your opinions and cars, thanks!!
Yes, i have a job and have been working for the entire summer i have already saved up 1500+ dollars. Also my parents are going to fill up the tank every once in a while.
Patriots are nice but don't have the best saftey features, my parents would never let me have it.

jeep patriot, its like one of the best looking suv's out there
it get good mpg and it looks awesome when you put 22's on it like on mine, seriously consider one, i'm 17 years old and i get plenty of complements, oh yeah, there like $18000 brand new

Get an Acura MDX....... with SUVs becoming unpopular dealers have a glut of them on their lots. So they are dealing!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen 2002 MDX with navigation for $8k!!!!! Normally it would be $15k.
