card then can you play blueray? I am deciding what I want on my laptop and was going to install this myself. i am already planning on installing an 8GB RAM upgrade but I didn't know anything about graphics/video cards so I was wondering what would be the best graphics card for gaming/ playing HD movies. I don't care about the price as I'm not trying to buy it yet so don't worry about giving me deals I just want to know what is the best in the market right now. Also I noticed that some alienware laptops came with a blue-ray player do macs have that. If not if I get the best video/graphics card will that automatically give me one????
ok so what is one that I can insert myself and doesn't sound like a diesel engine when they are running but still gets high quality games and HD video( i don't care about blue-ray now that i know I have to get something separate)???

the best graphics card for a laptop is GTX 280M 1gb
AND the best for a desktop is a GTX 285 2gb or 4gb
Any one who says that GTX 295 is best is an amateur or new to cards cuz GTX 295 has two GTX 260 processors in one card which has lower core clock memory clock and 448 bit bus width and is also very expensive(600$+) and very power consuming and GTX 285 is a single processor card that has the best core and memory clock and has 512 bit bus width if u put 2 or 3 GTX 285's in SLI it would be the most powerful beast on earth for next 2 years and it costs 300$ for one 2gb model

The best graphics cards on the market are the Nvidia GTX 295 and ATI Radeon 4870X2. I'm not sure if you can put the newest graphics cards in laptops though, due to size (these are humongous monsters) and heat issues (they apparently sound like a turbine when they're running full power due to the fans, and that's on a desktop with good airflow).

No, getting a new graphics card does not get you a blu-ray player. You need to buy a Blu-ray drive for that, like you do for DVDs
