What is the connection between Iron man, The incredible hulk, and the avengers?

OK, at the end of iron man 2, after the credits, they find a Hammer. Why is this hammer important and how do they plan to use it? Also at the end of The incredible hulk Tony stark is there, why? And what is the avengers? How is this all tied together??? PLEASE HELP!! thank you xx
 
The hammer is mjolner, the hammer of thor, whose adventures they have already announced they are planning to film. Thor was also with Iron Man a founding member of the Avengers -- which film has been scheduled, and as stated, Hulk was briefly a member of that group.
 
Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, The Wasp and Ant-Man are the original Avengers. Go to Marvel.Com and check out the Avengers. Also look at The Ultimates. Use your Google-fu young one.
