What is the difference between cage-free eggs and organic eggs?

Both seem to come from cage-free hens which are not fed hormones or antibiotics. Organic eggs are more expensive; why?

Cage free chickens are just free range chickens from a farm, as opposed to chicken "factories". If their eggs aren't certified organic, then they probably aren't. The chickens may be fed antibiotics, or perhaps their feed isn't organic. Organic eggs are more expensive because it's more expensive to to raise chickens that way.

Oranic does NOT mean cage-free. It means no use of pesticides or hormones in chicken food. They can still live their pitiful lives in a tiny cage until old enough to butcher.

As for the price of organic eggs, "organic" anything is hot right now, and purveyors know ppl will pay more for it... unless they've been informed, as you just have been.
