I had an african dwarf frog, but he recently died. I was thinking about getting a green spotted puffer fish. Any ideas?

A green spotted puffer needs at least 20 gallons.
An African dwarf frog needs at least 10 gallons (so there's your problem).
The only thing that can live in a one gallon is cherry or ghost shrimp. It may sound boring, but I have a shrimp only tank and get lost in it for hours. They're really fun and interesting to watch. And they make millions of babies all the time. And you don't need a heater (for ghosts and as long as your house stays above 62 degrees) or a filter. And ghost shrimp become very aggressive in warm temperatures (to each other and fish) so it's actually best to keep them without a heater.

A betta needs at least 5 gallons. DO NOT get a betta!

You could probly keep a common goldfish in there till it grows bigger.

you can get one comet goldfish but i mean, GET A BIGGER TANK! you can't possibly put a gsp with a betta in the same tank that you have. if you had a 20 gallon a few barbs and some ghost cats will be nice but how ever they are not tricky and hard fish to have. as they are Between the hard level and bigginer.

No, you are obviously not educated on your fish types. No offense, of course. I'm not an expert either. But I do happen to know that a one gallon tank is too small for anything except a betta. Puffer fish need lots of equipment with large saltwater tanks, they are definitely not for beginners.
I would suggest starting out with either one male or female betta. Put a bamboo plant in the tank and some rocks. Get some betta food and maybe a few frozen bloodworms. Then you can read a little about them and get one. Also, NEVER but two bettas together unless they are both girls or you are a well educated breeder who knows what they're doing. Which I can tell you are not.
My advice is read up a bit and then start with a betta. I hope it all works out ok.
