I wanna do a drive from the SFO bay area to Seattle. Time is not a major constraint, although this is not a sight-seeing trip. I'd just like a scenic drive and I'd like to get to Seattle within 3 days.

Scenic drive, to me, means I'm driving most of time if I'm not sleeping or eating, but if I see something uniquely beautiful, I'm gonna stop and take pictures and enjoy the place. So, I don't have any stops planned. Just once in a while, when I see something nice.

I looked at Google maps and it seems like I'll fall asleep on I-5 and be so bored I'll just end up driving back home. So, I-5 all the way is not an option. It seems like the ideal scenic route is going to be a combination of Hwy 1, US 101, and I-5. But I've just never driven North of California so I don't know how to plot a route that will give me scenery and get me into Seattle in reasonable time (2 to 3 days).

I'd like to plot a route with info from people familiar with this route.
also, if you could tell me things like:
- what the speed limit is along different parts of the route.
- where along the way would be a good / cheap place to get a night's sleep (1st night and possibly 2nd night)

Let's say I take off from SFO early Friday morning. Then, I'd like to get to Seattle sometime before Sunday afternoon.

thanks guys
By the way, I'd love to just sleep in my car and save myself the hassle and cost of a motel, I ain't no big-shot executive who needs luxury accommodations, plus it would make a much better adventure. It would be great if you guys know places where you are allowed to just park and spend the night in your car.

Ideally, this would be a place close to the ocean, yet safe :) I know I'm asking for too much.
