What is the Sci-fi book about parallel worlds?

I'm trying to get the title of a book. I only remember some vague parts of it. It's about a boy that finds himself in a subway station that is abandoned and meets a man that is from another place. The book has a sci-fi feel to it. The title/author of the book would help. Thanks!
