A patrol boat was going upstream when it passed by a drifting log. It continued 16 miles more then went back. After 2 hours it passed by the log again. What is the speed of the boat if it’s 5 times as fast as the current?

Speed of the boat—x:
2(x + 0.2x) = 0.2x(2 + 2) + 16
2(1.2x) = 0.2x(4) + 16
2.4x = 0.8x + 16
1.6x = 16
x = 10

Answer: 10 mph
= 5(5[5] + 7[3]), = 5(25 + 21), = 5(46), = 230
= 4(4[5] + 10[3]) = 4(20 + 30), = 4(50) = 200
