What is up with this ombre hair trend?

I personally don't care for it at all UNLESS it's a subtle difference in color as you get toward the ends. Example of a more subtle ombre: Lily Aldridge. To me, it looks like as if you bleach/color your hair, and let your roots grow out, which is something I try to AVOID. An example would be Drew Barrymore. Way too dramatic there. Who else thinks that this hair coloring technique looks more like an overdue color session?

People are starting to do the ombre in large quantities, it was designed to be at the very tip of you hair, to make it look like you dipped your hair into the dye. It's really cute, and it's a great summer look, i'd try it.
