What is wrong with my GMC Jimmy's starter?

it's a new starter and just the other day it tested perfectly at auto zone. my battery is in good condition. when i turn the key it just makes a "clicking sound" but won't turn over. it was acting up before it completely quit working. i've tried hitting it with a hammer and it still won't kick out the solenoid. could it be the wiring from the battery to the starter that's bad?

make sure all your earth connections the heavy duty ones are all clean make sure you are getting a full 12 volts to the (big) lead onto the starter and that the smaller lead (the energizer) wire is getting 12 volts when you turn the ignition other than that the starter is a faulty one

You probably have a bad electrical connection in your starter circuit. Make sure all of your connections are clean and tight.
