Alright so about three weeks ago my steering wheel (all of the sudden rather than gradually) became "wobbly". If I let it go or held on to it the truck would still go in a straight line and when I turned (rotated the wheel) it performed as usual. So this wobblyness didn't really affect my ability to drive safely. I asked around about this and got all sorts of answers about what it could possibly be. But since my trusted friend who knows about vehicles as well as my most trusted mechanic both told me I shouldn't worry about it and it would not get worse, I just kept driving the truck.
WELL! THEY WERE WRONG! Tonight on my way home I noticed that I was veering to the right very noticeably. It seems like if I corrected it and then held the steering wheel in the neutral default position the truck would go very straight for a couple 2,3 seconds then start to veer again. I drove the truck the rest of the 8ish miles home hoping that driving it would not make this problem worse.
Any ideas what could be wrong? I was told possibly worm gear or rag joint or steering box needs adjusting or pitman arm.
Also this could be related to the fact that I had a towing belt connected to something under the front of my truck (idk what it's called my friend attached it) and recently what was left of it that i hadn't already cut away came loose and i ran it over several times. When I would run it over usually was when I was backing up and turning and it would make my truck jerk and slow down when i ran it over and I can't imagine that was good for the truck. Anyway I tucked it into my front license plate and now I'm not running it over anymore. Maybe a little too late though..
Oh and I'm considering taking the truck to napa to get fixed because they are close and I don't want to drive with a dangerous truck or make the problem worse... Is NAPA any good?
