What kind of careers require the least amount of travel?

I am terrified of airplanes. I am trying to decide on an major and want to go into a field that will be based in one location without having to travel all over the place. I would like to travel, don't get me wrong... i have awful anxiety attacks that are triggered by travel. Anyway, thanks :)

You can find a job in pretty much any field that doesn't require too much travel - you just need to be sure to ask plenty of questions about it when you're interviewing...http://www.ocrotiks.info
 
I am the same. Any field is fine as long as you choose a job that does not require travelling - this would mean sales or high end management positions. Don't let your anxiety rule your future. Just do what your heart desires and go from there.
 
There are a lot of fields that don't require a lot of travel. Your doctor probably travels only for conferences and can arrange around them. Kitchen help, waitresses, HVAC service, manufacturing. The list is endless from top to bottom. Just think about the people you come into contact with. College professors, local teachers. But if you really want to reach your potential,you ought to seek some help with your fear of airplanes because while it might not matter now, there could come a time when you really want a job and can't take it. Taking the plane is a lot like taking the bus, except it's safer. While it's true lightning strikes twice on occasion in the same place, the chances of you being there either time is not high. You run more risk getting into a car than an airplane. There is something numbing about the lack of survivors in most cases, but it doesn't happen with any frequency. I know women who've been flying almost daily as cabin attendants ready for retirement who've never even had a close call in decades of flying. And in the end, we're all going to die. You'll go so far out of your way to avoid airplanes you'll end up dying early in front of a freight train.
 
I also don't like airplanes so I feel for you. A few others mentioned teaching and medicine - which are good. Other options include accounting, dentistry (dentist or hygienist), agriculture, banking, restaurant management, social work, psychologist, psychiatrist, human resources, real estate, criminal justice, computer programmer, graphic design, and pharmacist. As with any job, like business or journalism if you chose to stay local and don't move up into jobs that require travel you would be fine. However, any job may require travel from time to time for educational or training purposes.
