A lot of people let their cats outside and because of this many cats die, get lost, go to shelters and then die because they're not claimed or adopted.
I have indoor/outdoor cats mine is a tortie and a tabby, any moggie can be an outdoor pet i won't get a special breed as these can be stolen so get yourself a big ginger tom or something like that remember to get them fixed as this will stop them wandering too far they only tend to go to approx 2-3 different gardens if you do get one make sure that they can get to food and water you might consider a cat flap so they can come and go when they please and have a safe place if they get chased by foxes or badgers
IMO the only "outdoor" cats are those born in the wild and adjust to being outside. Domestic cats really are safer inside unless you supervise them outside. Most purebred cat breeders will have you sign a contract that the cat stays INSIDE.
If you want an outside cat who will spend most of the time outside, then you don't have a pet cat - you have a cat that may or may not decide to hang around.
