What kind of fitness would you advise to try for a beginner?+What can you say...

...about callanetics and pilates? Hello everybody, my question might seem a little stupid but it's really important for me. I'm 21 years old, have around 10 kgs (~22lbs) overweight and unfortunately, I had never had enough time and money to do sports though I'd love to. A week ago, I got my salary raised twice and am thinking of starting to do sports to improve my figure but have no idea what to start with. I've looked through a great number of sports center sites in my city and have found only 3 kinds of sports that are held at suitable time for me - callanetics, pilates andn something called fitness-plastique (must be some kind of gymnastics). My questions are:

1)What can you say about callanetics and pilates - are they really that effective as they're claimed to be?

2) Would you advise these kinds of sports for an absolute beginner?

3) If you don't find them effective, what kinds of sports would you recommend?
(My goals are NOT JUST to lose weight but also to get some MUSCLE TRAINING, especially to train the abdominal ones cause my belly isn't flat at all:-) and that's one of my biggest problems.)
