eating a lot of calories? Because I am gaining so much weight since school started I am going to try to ditch the school lunches (because they are like fast food every day) and try to eat healthy salads. What kind of lettuce is best for me? And what else should I put on my salad to make it filling so I won't be craving snacks when I get home? Btw how much weight should I lose if I am 140lbs, 13-14 years old and 5'3"

Spinach is amazing for you and very few calories! But I don't think you need to look any weight because I am 5'4&1/2" and am 138 pounds with VERY muscular legs! :) you sound beautiful don't loose weight if you don't have to! Lol and I just turned 17 last week btw. For options to put on your salad how about loads of veggies, walnuts (full of vitamins and good fats) and maybe some turkey or ham!

Well all salad is low in calories but the darker kind, like spinach, romaine, kale etc have higher nutrition than iceberg lettuce which makes it better for you. Just don't add high calorie dressings. Vinegar and oil mixed are the best. Use some dark vinegar and olive oil and mix that in a bottle and drizzle it on your salad. Then add a few carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers and 1/4 cup of beans to the salad and it's now a healthy meal. Snacks are fine but make them healthy. So eat like 1/4 cup of nuts or some raw veggies with hummus or fruit.

Definitely eat romaine lettuce. It has the highest nutritional value, and is still extremely low calorie. You should lose about 15 pounds to be healthy, but take it slow and don't expect immediate results.

Get the lettuce straight off a head of lettuce .
But a couple heads and wipe your own salads together.

raw spinach-most nutrients
Iceberg-least calories but not as much nutrients

iceberg lettuce or spinach or arugela or all that mixed is great for you!

i personally like baby spinache leaves. they have more vitamins and only 20 calories for two cups of it. i know its not lettuce but its a good substitute for lettuce, less watery
