What makes a subwoofer great for a home theater?

Just want to know because I have a yamaha 45 watt and a 80 watt sony subwoofer and if you had to choose what would it be and why. Also what makes a subwoofer great please tell for a home theater
Also if a subwoofer has less watts can it still be better than one with a higher watt
