holding the gas? have a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier. The problem is is that on certain occasions my car wont start on up on the first crank. But if I were to put my foot on the gas a little before I start the car it cranks right on up the first time. What is the problem and what can I do to fix it. (I have been told that it is the battery, or fuel pump, or the ignition control module.) Which one is it because I need HELP !

first of all to don't start a car by holding our foot on the gas pedal and second, you might need to exchange your spark plugs

It is probably low fuel pressure (fuel pump) or fuel pressure regulator.

Your fuel system is suppose to maintain pressure even when the engine is off. But on old engines, the system slowly lose pressure and require few cranks to get it back up.

Good Luck..
