I'm writng a novel and there is a scene where I mention Wynona Ryder's shoplifting incident. I know I could get sued if my novel was ever published with that in it. What could I replace it with that could be just as funny. Here's the scene.
“Look, Lise,” said Gretch the Wretch, my favourite name for her. “It’s Nick and the strudel slurper”.
I didn’t bother pointing out that you couldn’t slurp strudel and focused on something else. I had heard that Gretchen had been stopped trying to shoplift and been charged.
“I hear you tried to pull a Wynona,” I clicked my tongue. “Did the handcuffs match the shoes you pinched? Although I don’t see anything matching the gumboots you’d need to fit your feet”.
But I had lost Gretchen at the Wynona reference.
“Was?” Aaron asked, “What?”, obviously as unfamiliar with Wynona Ryder as Gretch the Wretch.
Help??
