I am almost 16 and am going to get my m1. I will be taking a safety course as well. I have ridden a yz125 dirtbike for a few years now, but not sure as if it will help me on the road. I am 5'10.5 and 170 pounds. I was looking at the ninja 250, ninja500 and the gs500. What do you think?

Your almost 16, you have to be 21 to drive a motorbike which has more than 33bhp. u can drive a ninja 250 , u can drive a yamaha r1, aslong as there restricted to 33 bhp. so if i was you i'd stick to somthing like a road legal ktm125 or a aprilia rs125.

Your dirt bike experience is very helpful, as you now only need to learn roadcraft, not the mechanics of operating the bike.
Any one of the bikes you name should serve you well. My favorite of the three would be the Suzuki. I have had very pleasant experiences with the 425/450/500 twins from many years. The 250 could be fun, but I think the torque of the 500s makes them easier to ride in traffic.
