I have been divorced for a little over a year. Despite that, I still have a strong friendship and very positive relationship with my ex-husband. Now my ex-husband has two boys. I love those boys with all my heart and still maintain a consistent, positive and healthy relationship with them too.
Now in that, I never know what to call the boys in conversation to others. If I was talking about them before, I'd say my 'stepson' or my 'stepchildren'. Now though, I'm never sure how to refer to them that doesn't need a huge prelude or doesn't sound too aloof either. They are a big part of my life and likewise. 'Ex-stepson'/'ex-stepchildren' seems harsh and callous. But just calling them still my stepsons seems too territorial. And then just saying like my friend's kids seems to not do the relationship justice.
So, I'm open to and interested in anyone's suggestions or opinions. I'm definitely at a loss on this one.
Thank you...
