What To Do About Anemic Cat?

My vet doesn't think these two issues are related but just in case, my cat had a recent urinary tract problem with striuvate crystals. He was given meds and we had just finished them and everything seemed to be back to normal. We were also told to stop feeding any dry food and switch to Prescription C/D canned food which we did.

This past Thursday (today is Saturday) my cat wasn't yowling outside my bedroom to be fed and wouldn't eat when I found him. My cat loves to eat so this was very alarming. I took him to the vet right away and his red blood cell count was 7% which was very low. They recommended keeping him there, giving him injections of vitamins and iv fluids. When I went home I found a small piece of green onion in some bile he had thrown up. We have some wild green onions growing in the backyard and had no idea they were toxic to cats. I called the vet to let them know. The next day (Friday) he was up to 13% red blood cells and we kept him at the vets. They also found Heinz Body Anemia. I went to see him and he couldn't lift his head but was purring a little. He still had not eaten anything since Wed night. Today (Saturday) we saw him twice and we got him to eat quite a bit both times but he wasn't purring at all and seemed pissed off. He could raise his head and he did walk from his box in the cage to the litter box. His breathing seemed laboured though like it was taking more effort to get air. Today his count was 17% in the morning and 18% at night.

We don't know what to do. After the urinary tract problem and $200 a day at the vets we are getting tapped out. We were told about blood transfusions but were also told they were $800 each and he might need a few and they might not work at all. At this point our plan is if he keeps getting better, to take him home Monday with some meds, make him comfortable and hope for the best. If he's not getting better by then....

What would you do? I love him but we just can't afford much more (6 month old baby) and I don't want him to suffer through tonnes of treatments. Are we missing anything?

Thanks
