I was jogging yesterday to excercise and this car pulled over, a lady in a truck, and I walked beside where she got off. I didn't see anything until I turned my back and then I heard and saw this white pitbull with brown spots barking at me. It seemed it wanted to bite me because it was getting really close to me. The owner panicked and yelled to the dog "No! come back..." whatever his name was I forgot. I stood still because I figured if I ran or jogged more I will bite. Eventually, nothing bad happed, the owner refrained her dog. And I left back home.
My question is did I do good? and then I thought what if it bite me? Is it OK to defend yourself agianst this dog? Will I get suid if I kill the dog (vicious ones: rockwiller, pitbull, etc..) cuz I'll do anything to protect myself ie. choke it, hit it in the eyes, nuts, stomach etc.. And what if theres no owner, what then?
Also, any dog owners what are ur thoughts if u could not control ur dog. Is it not ok, kill a human instead?
"I stood still because I figured if I ran or jogged more *it* will bite." Sorry for the typos. Anyways, I was not frightend (maybe thats why it didn't bite?" but I was shaken up after the thoughts and questions it ran through my head after, "What if?"

You would be justified in killing the dog if it was not on a leash and it attacked you. You should carry pepper spray as a precaution when you jog.

If you attack a pit bull, you are asking to be attacked... You are not going to hurt a pit bull because they have a very high pain threshhold, which is why they are used for fighting. You did the right thing by not running b/c dogs (*not just pits*) have a chasing instinct.

You did right in not running away. Dogs have a "chase" mechanism, like all hunting animals, and will chase anything if it runs from them. If the dog attacks you, you have every right to defend yourself. However, if the dog doesn't do anything and you still beat it, then the owner can (and probably will) sue you.
