What to look for in a 1967 VW bus?

I'm pretty unexperienced with cars and i really wanna get a VW bus. i just don't know what to look for. i need something that isn't going to give me too much trouble with the engine or anything like that... i like to travel alot so it wouldn't just be for show...

and if anyone could give me the average MPG that would be great too.
