Im bad at explaining so ill try my best...
If your going to do martial arts that involves jumping real high, do you need to be light (weight)?
or
If your gonna try Chen style Tao chi Chuan, do you need to be swift to be good in that class?
that's basically what I'm trying to say....
I want to know what kind of traits/skill do you have to be good in a class that involves a lot of pressure points and using your opponent's force against them.

Being athletic and/or talented helps but is by no means a requirement unless you plan on training for an Olympic team or something like that.
What does seem to make a difference is determination and being too stubborn to quit no matter how hard it gets. I have seen many talented people start martial arts who did not have the determination of someone less talented. A few years down the road it was always the person with the most determination who was better in the art.
