What type of fixie bike should i get?

Im willing to get a fixie bike around 500-600$ but don't know what type of brand,Steel should i get since it my first time getting one. i love biking but i never had a fixie what do you guy consider getting one online or in a store,having it customize like you make it yourself or buying one made my friend said it better making it yourself, is it true that chrome is the best type of steel cuz it stronger and it weight less what do you guy have in mind?
