What was wrong with the squirrel?

Today i found a baby squirrel at around... 4:30 ish at Van Nuys Golf place. It was all alone, and i didn't want to leave it there by itself. It was on the grass about 10 feet away from a tree, and its arms were sortof spread out and it couldn't move. So I picked it up and carried it the entire golf game. It was about 3-4 inches long, and had a really thin tail. It looked really weak and limp. What was wrong?
I know it wasn't a good idea to touch it, but i used gloves
