What were cellphones like when they were first introduced?

They were much larger than what they have today. Today's phones have gotten so small and compact, you would be surprised to see how big they once were. Most people did not carry them in their pockets--they were strapped onto your belt loop in a carrier, or put into a backpack. The older cell phones are what people in the industry call "brick phones", because of their bulky size and the fact they were usually square, like a brick. Flip phones did not get introduced until later in the game, so most cell phones had all the numbers and the screen on the front. The graphics were also black and white, no color. And there was no such thing as Internet and all these other applications like music players that all the cool phones have today. You could simply make calls and receive text messages. Some had calendars and a calculator and stuff. No cameras, either. Plans were more expensive because they were new, and all new technology is expensive. Having a cell phone was a luxury. And text messages were expensive as well, often 30 cents per message, because back then, no one knew it would catch on like it has. They had no unlimited messaging plans and whatnot, because at the time they thought no one would use it that much.

They don't have color, they are quite bigger and thick, they have small screen some screens only apply with the orange color and some have white color and the key pads are big. they are smaller than a 2001 cordless phone. The cordless phones nowadays are somehow smaller. u can only call and text basically and there are no features, just 2d pixel. no pictures or whtever.

The first cell phones were huge! They were about the size of a cordless phone handset. They didn't have any cool features like different ring tunes or internet. All you could do was make a phone call, they were plain and simple. Also cell phones didn't pick up on that nifty digital wireless signal like all cell phone do today. My grandparents had one of those antiquated cell phones for the longest of time--it was embarrassing. Whenever they took it to the cell phone store for trouble shooting the sales clerk had to get out an old manual because he hadn't seen a model like theirs in years! Finally their cell phone company made them get a new phone--it only cost them one cent since they had been a customer for over a decade.

they were about 2/3 the size of the old military walki-talkies and i think it cost about $3.00 for a single phone call and bear in mind, that's $3.00 at the 1980 rate, which was a lot for a phone call (pay phones were still $0.10)

You should probably check the history of them, then.

They were HUGE! They weighed about two pounds, I think, and were about a foot long, and three or four inches deep and wide.

They had NO features! (no texting, no photos/videos, no internet connections, one ringtone...much like an ordinary ring._

They could store 10 phone numbers (actually, I believe they were only able to do that a short time after they were introduced.

Everyone wanted one, but they were expensive to buy and very expensive to use.
