What would have happened if Alexander Grahm Bell didn't discover America?

Sorry, forgot the deets. I am writing a history report for my AP american history class, and i need some ideas :)
 
There would not be a border between the United States and Canada since Bell was, like Diefenbaker, a Canadian.
 
No one would be able to call in to tell you that you are not going to pass this class.

On reconsideration: Bell only made it first to the patent office by a few hours (look up Elisha Gray). So, the telephone would have been invented anyway, especially since Thomas Edison actually deserves credit for half of it.

You're not going to pass the class.
