I train mma and I run 15 to 20 min on the treadmill about 4 days a week for my cardio. I run at speeds that push me for that long of a period so that when i get into a match I can somewhat be prepared to not gas out. What do you guys think of this for cardio or can anyone think of some ways to change it up. New techniqs welcome :)

try pliometrics AKA (Jump training)... it will help you go faster and harder... longer. This will set both your lungs and legs on fire. Be prepaired its not easy.

Also try PULLUP BURPEES. It's a combo of pushups, squats (both up and down), jumps and pullups all in one rep. A killer but it will rip you up in no time. You can find out how to do them both on most video galleries.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR TRAINING

I can only say this. Your more fit than someone who doesnt do it. And you will be very gassed out even if you routine was three times as hard as that 7 days a week. I am not saying your routine is pathetic or easy. I'd be willing to bet that you would definetly outstrip you opponent in an endurance race. Unfortunatly running isnt great conditioning for mma combat.

Most people falsly believe that conditioning for one sport will carry one very far in another. This is furthur from the truth. I have freinds who wrestled 2 hours a day and were decent runners not great. Those same freinds tried boxing and got gassed fast. They lasted longer than a total newbie but only as long as a begineer usually lasts. I have freinds who ran alot, they thought wrestling was ridiculously hard. They gasses in the first bout they were in. The point im trying to make is that you cant depend on excellent running endurance to carry you far in a match. Even if you pushed yourself to the point that it was anaerobically affecting you not aerobically it would only aid the legs. Nothing else.

The Best cardio for mma is is the cardio that trains your body specifically for what it needs to do. My freinds got gassed because they were physically unprepared in some aspects..
Your best endurance, the anaerobic endurance can only be trained in sparring of some kind, Eg boxing, kickboxing, and wrestling. This kind of training troubleshoots the exact muscles your going to be depending on the most in an mma fight. Sparring also teaches you how to fight with proper technique, this way your not expending energy wastefully and technique can help you stall on your opponent and thus rest.

Im not hating on your running. I bet your a beast at it no doubt. Im just saying that dont bank on it to keep you fighting. Bank on the conditioning you recieve, conditioning geared toward the exact scenarios you will be a part of.

please rate dont hate (lol gay)
hope this helps
thanks

u dont need all that just have sex... that'll work up a sweat

15-20 minutes is to long, so you don't need anymore other cardio. but you need more spiritual training or pr essence of mind, in the fight you need a presence of mind to be able to beat your opponent
