whats the easiest way to make a dvd into rar files to store online?

I have a friend in argentina who recorded a local concert with a hi def camera, he has the videos on 2 dvds. How can he send them to me? It costs too much money to ship, im thinking maybe he can make an image file, but its a 4.7 gb img, how could he send it to me?

Most sharewebsites only allow you to share 2gb max. Is the best way to extract image to rars? i need some help. what are some good sharing websites, even if i have to pay a little bit its okay.
 
You could also send the files directly from his computer to yours. For example with an instant messenger or with an ftp server like FileZilla.
