whats the law on drivers teaching others family/friends etc..?

im a fairly new driver, with a full license, id like to take my girlfriend out somewhere quiet and teach her a few basics before she takes proper lessons? can someone tell me what the law says about this? im proud of my clean license and dont want to jeopardise it,
I know you need to display L plates front and back, does she need to pass the theory first???
 
Each state has its own laws about who may teach unlicensed drivers. To my knowledge, all require the student obtain a learners permit first. Where I live, IIRC the teacher must be 21 or over.
