what's the pattern to "a very simple game" ipad app?

I've been trying at it for about 2 days and i'm about to smash my ipad because i can't figure it out! even a hint would be nice.

Ugh... It confused me for a little bit, but then I figured it out and it was pretty dumb.

There is no "pattern", you just need to tell them how many fingers were shown 1 back (and not how many fingers are shown when the question is asked).
At the beginning of the instructions, before he says "this is 1" (and shows 2 fingers), 1 finger quickly flashes on the screen (right at the start).
So after he tells you that "4" is 5 fingers, he then shows u 1 finger and asks what it is.... The answer would be "5", because that was he number 1 back..... The next answer will be "1" regardless of how many fingers he shows, and then that number will be the next response..

I hope this is clear, it's pretty hard to explain.

For the medium level, you need to report how many fingers were shown 2 back..... I gave up then. Once you realize what the solutions, it loses it's novelty
