My girlfriend/fiance has two friends and both of them have recently began dating these two guys that are very (I hate placing labels on people, but for lack of better terms) metro-sexual. These two dudes just don't act very "dude-like." Sorry, just can't seem to come up with a better word.
My fiance's friends always poke fun at me, by saying things such as, "You're such a guy." "You're such a caveman or redneck." Yeah, duh!! Hello, I am a guy!! What they mean is that I enjoy doing what a lot of guys enjoy doing. I like riding my Harley, working on my Harley, working on cars, doing household repairs, watching football on sundays, drinking beer with my buds, fishing, etc. I don't like shopping, and I've never gotten a manicure. I was in the Marine Corps so I'm very accustomed to roughing it.
But I'm also not a total caveman either. I'm certainly not above doing household chores such as; laundry and cleaning the bathroom and kitchen. Usually, I'm just a t-shirt and jeans kinda guy, but I do dress up when the occassion calls for it (and clean up quite well, if I do say so myself). Hell, I even enjoy cooking. I treat my fiance well. I don't treat her like a slave/cavewoman or neglect her. I even bring her flowers occasionally for absolutly no reason at all other than I know how much she appreciates getting fresh flowers.
Having said that, these two guys, that my fiance's friends have started dating, act like complete girls. They love shopping, and both have said that they enjoy getting manicures and pedicures. They dress in pastel colored clothes, one even wore a pair of capree pants. I once asked them if they wanted to come over and watch a football game (I have a big 60 inch hi def television) and they both looked at me like I was from another planet. I don't even think they know what football is. The girls joked that I should go with them shopping and to the nail salon for a manicure. Never in a million years!!
It just seems like lately, guys are being forced to be more feminine. My fiance and I were discussing this just the other day and she even told me that she's glad I don't act like these two guys. She said that she has her female friends to go shopping with. She wants a man, not a shopping buddy. She loves the fact that I am who I am. I find her feminine qualities very attractive, just like she finds my masculine qualities attractive. And she has no doubts that I will protect her if need be and take care of her. The other guys, I'm not so sure. They may break a nail trying to protect their women.
Do most women go for these types of guys in this modern age? Is this the norm? Am I the one who is completely out of date? Cause if I am out of date, then I can totally live with being labeled a pre-historic caveman.
