What's with these car rental prices?

I'm planning to rent a car for several days. I'll need it for 5, but was thinking that I might as well go ahead and get a 7 day rental. I'm thinking that the daily cost might be greater for the 5 days, so what the hell just go for the whole week.

Wouldn't you think that the longer the term of the rental, the lower the daily rate would be? Well I checked budget car rental and compared the cost for a 5 day rental to a full week rental. Turns out the full week for an intermediate car would be $301 including all taxes and fees. That's the total cost after they tack on all those incredible taxes that they stiff car renters with. On the other hand, the total cost for a 5 day rental is only $137. The daily cost for 7 days comes to about $43 and the daily cost for 5 days comes to about $27. Go figure? What's up with this? I'm figuring Thursday noon to Tuesday noon for the 5 day. Maybe it's a weekend rate. That's the only way it makes sense.

I know what you mean . First, you don't need the additional insurance because your credit card should have it (check). So, that is additional savings. Try reserving on-line because the computer makes errors (usually to your favor), print out the confirmation and guess what? They have to honor it. I think Enterprise has the best deal long-term. Plus they pick you up and drop you off. Start your rental on a Friday AM (weekend rate) and then carry it out for as long as you can afford it. We rented a car from Friday AM to Monday Evening for about $55.00 (not bad). Good luck!
