What's with this sudden bunch of young writers?

I've always been writing and thinking stories and reading sense I was little. And suddenly, there are 12, 13, 14, 15 year old writers wanting to get published. People ask me why I'm wasting my time with wanting to be a professional writer and why I spend day and night, every spare second, inside writing and doing research. On Yahoo! I realized that there are so many others hoping to make it big. What's with this rise? A lot of teenagers don't even like reading. All it is is sports. How is this happening?
 
I'm 15 and have ALWAYS loved reading and prefer it over sports. I also love to write and started seriously about 9 months ago when i thought of a story idea while on a long drive.
 
As a teenager, I've always been big on writing, just not stories. I write poems. But sometimes I can't get exactly what I feel into a poem...so I write some stories. I think with other teens they just want to create this story and put themselves as the main character kind of a fantasy life for them you know? A lot of teen romance is probably like that, which ironically I'm going to be writing about soon..
