What's wrong with my email in my itouch?

Okay so since yesterday, when I using my itouch, I went to my email and it was 'Checking for Mail' it was talking longer than usual and I waited 5 minutes, but it was working. I tried deleting my account and then created it again but it's still doing the same thing. What should I do?
