Personally i'm going to say that I do not hate the United States, but what I do hate is the fact that 95% of Americans think they are better then everyone else.
I love how you guys are "so patriotic"; willing to go to war and die to protect your freedoms and the freedoms of others, yet the idea of paying more taxes to save the lives of others through free-healthcare is not an option.
You guys go on and on about how our healthcare is so bad and we have to wait.. sure, if I go to a walk in clinic I may have to wait 45 minutes.. but atleast when I walk out the door I won't get hit with a bill of a hundred bucks. Tell me how many of you guys make $100 dollars an hour? Now ask yourselves if saving a hundred bucks is worth waiting an hour.
And for that kid a few pages back who went on about how "the internet was created by the US so i should be thankful that it exists".. shut the fuck up. In all of my 4 and a half years on ST, that has to be one of the most ignorant comments I have ever read.
As for the Country I do hate: I'd probably have to go with Iraq or pre 9/11 Afghanistan
Nothing against the canadian system, if it works for you thats fine. However I feel that its very important healthcare remain privatized in the US since much of the research and drug development is funded and done through private drug companies here.
I'm not trying to preech and say that "free healthcare is the solution to all of life's problems". Because obviously in itself there are a lot of flaws to it. Personally my family is very well off and recently in Ontario/Quebec there have been talks of creating private healthcare clinics which is something my family is interested in, but at the same time my family still believes in contributing to society as a whole to benefit those who normally would not be able to afford certain medical treatments.
On the other hand, it is also very irritating to have little kids who have no idea what their talking about refer to us as "Socialists" because we choose to consider the needs of others. Personally I am very conservative, but at the same time I feel that ensuring everyone has the right to complete and thorough health care should be a priority, and I pride myself in the fact that the Canadian government has done that. Likewise i'd much rather prefer to brag about my government's ability to ensure the health and safety of its citizens through healthcare rather then its ability to do it by blowing shit up thousands of miles away :\
