When greeting a woman you know that's a friend, is it customary for the man

to give a kiss on the cheek? So let's say there's a gathering (such as Thanksgiving) and a man meets a woman that he's friends with. Is it customary for the guy to give a kiss on the cheek?

on the cheek only, but yes its normal to some people.

If you think it might be interpreted wrong then it is not appropriate. It is not right or wrong, but it is wrong to do something when you don't know the outcome and don't know if you'll make someone uncomfortable. ***Unless you are creating culture, then you do it.
