when i step on the gas pedal all the way down on my truck it doesn't switch gears.?

i have a 2000 dodge dakota. transmissions fine, if i push the pedal half way it changes fine, no sound no thump nothing. but when i push the pedal all down it wont shift. why?
 
I'd look into the Throttle Position Sensor.

You can test it with a volt meter, but you'll need to find the specs for idle throttle position voltage and wide open throttle voltage. this is different for each vehicle model.
