When I turn off my TV, my surround sound stays on?

When i turn off my television, the surround sound's sound actually stays on so i can still hear what is being said on the television but i cant see the picture because the TV's off. If anyone could help me so that when i turn the tele off, the sound also turns off on the surround sound.
