i usually give a hand shake but i always feel like girls are like wtf should i just say hi without the handshake or what

handshaking is way to formal... but if you want to make a great impression try this:
1. kneel on one knee
2. hold one of her hand gently by the fingers
3. kiss her hand softly
4. utter the words...please to meet you, mu lady!

this will surely make an impression, good or bad...you will make her smile and will probably remember you for a long time...
