when looking for cars would you rather buy american or foreign and why?

my friend keeps telling me american cars suck but im trying to convince him they dont. but if they really do then id like to know why. so why would you choose american over foreign or vice versa and in your opinion what are the best car manufacturers world wide? thanks
 
My last 4 vehicles (back to 1982) have been Hondas because they get great mileage, have low maintenance costs, are very comfortable and reliable. Plus they last forever. My 2 pre-honda vehicles were a Chrysler and a Dodge...nothing but trouble.

Plus, I can't remember the last time I liked the way an American made vehicle looked.

Obviously, I like Hondas, but Toyota and Nissan are good as well, they just cost more to maintain...same with Mercedes, BMW and VW
