A few things on this subject:

The problem with the prevalence of mobile phones is that these days most people do nothing more than look for self validation via their damn phone. It's become as important as having social skills. It's pathetic.

If you listen to most people on their mobile phones you'll notice the pattern is something like this...

- I'm coming up the escalator now... I'm gonna turn left now..

- I'm just getting out of the cab now... I thought I'd go over there...

-Just crossing the street now... I need to walk downhill now...


They're giving whoever is on the other end a play-by-play of the most absolutely mundane crap there is. The move by move notation of preambulation. Because they usually can't walk and talk at the same time.... they tend to bottleneck crosswalks and escalators. Idiots.

The only thing worse is mates who meet you for dinner and then spend most of the dinner responding to texts. Totals sods. This will sort out who your true friends are faster than anything else. We have a new rule... anyone who starts texting during a meal gets slugged. Needles to say many mates have black eyes. I simply won't tolerate that kind of crap with mates.

It's bad enough most people can't write a coherent sentence... let alone carry on a decently engaged conversation. First we had to suffer from the innudation of sound bite news - because they dumbed everything down to fit into bite size morsels of psuedo news that fit conveniently between the primetime advertising slots. Now we have to suffer from buffoons who can't connect two thoughts in a basic conversation because their minds are too weak from text brain atrophy.

I really hope they eventually confirm that mobile phone usage does cause brain cancer. It will get rid of a fair amount of idiots.

What about people who can't even walk and talk at the same time? In the middle of a crowd they'll stop dead to answer their phone, the strain of operating both their legs and mouth simultaneously is too much for them.

And yes Mr.Slip, yes I agree! Work mobiles are a scourge too. Why must people insist on ringing me on a day off because some git in the council gave them my mobile number! If I were a brain surgeon maybe, but honestly,will the world really fall apart if there is a minor curatorial mishap or if I really am out of the office till tomorrow!
As if I want to deal with your stupid enquiry when I'm in the supermarket.Grrrrrr!

Trying not to sound too old...it's amazing when you think back just 10 years to a time when it wasn't a must to have a mobile phone. In fact, any who did have them were business people who actually used them for the original use of being a mobile PHONE. Rahter than the mobile phone/text/camera/MP3 player/radio/torch/post code finder etc etc...

The txtspk was terrible because i have never ever used it before! I had to improvise, used some netspeak as well .

I downgraded my mobile as I realise at last that I was simply being conned. Paying a ridiculous amount of money for calls I never made,texts I never used and a phone with ridiculous features that I would never ever require!
I am sure I rant more the older I get. Day by day more things disgruntle me.But I also find pleasure in simple things!

I would like a decent camera on it to be honest, but not a holographic, funny shaped, glittery fax/printer/CNC machine. I also see no reason to carry an mp3 player with me every time if i am not going to use it, i'd rather have a smaller phone.

I like to have my gadgets seperate. For music I like my Ipod.For pictures I like my camera. And I always lose my mobile somewhere in the depths of my bag.

I pay an extra 5 or 6 bucks a month to text.. saves me minutes on my phone. And yes.. I use predictive.. I hated the concept at first, but once I got to figure it out.. its a cakewalk.. Unless you've got the same mental capacity as clam fritters, then in which case maybe you should stick with a couple of creamed corn cans and some string.

I'm with Sgt Major tho.. I hate talking... If a conversation lasts more than 30 seconds with me, it must be important.

Text messaging is Gods best gift to hollaring at booty calls since beer was invented.

That's true. Nothing worse than being stuck on the phone for the sake of it. For some reason many people (mainly women dare I say it) tend to do that a lot. For example demanding an in depth random conversation about what kind of day you've both had when you're meeting for a drink in an hour anyway...

And apparently for some people texting instead of phoning gets rid of the obligation to think of a conversation on the spot. Probably why dumping your partner by text has become so popular

Believe it or not - i have no video to post - while on "conversation" with a somewhat annoying person, mobile phone to mobile phone, after the first thirty minutes i just put the phone on the desk and continued to do whatever i was doing at the computer, leaning towards the phone to say something like "yes, i see" whenever she stopped talking. I didn't even bother with hands-free because i couldn't really stand listening to her. This went on for another hour or so, and i don't think she ever noticed it. Before she hanged up she did use the "sorry if i talk too much some times" line.

About the topic, i guess majority is into T9.I agree its much faster than texting on alpha mode.For me its confusing though(probably its because im dumb and lazy to even learn the basics ). Are there tutorial sites for this?
