when upgrading a phone (verizon)?

so i cant upgrade my phone till august. However my mom can upgrade it, and i really want the iphone4. is it possible if she upgrades but she doesn't use the phone and gives the phone to me?
or does upgrading the phone require you to change to your new phone immediately?
 
You can upgrade your phone whenever you want with your cell phone contract. It's just you have to wait to get the rebate. In fact if you pony up the dough and pay the full price for the phone you usually don't have to renew your contract. If you have a job I suggest saving the $300 or whatever and pay full price for it.
 
Yes you can all you need to do is go in to a verizon store or go on myverizon online and transfer the upgrade to your line.
thats what i did..
