When we change batteries on a graphing calculator, will we lose the memory?

I wanted to know i if i might lose all the data and memory in the graphinc calcuator if i change the battery.
what will happen if the calculator is on? off?
i have a TI 83plus
 
Do not change all batteries removing then putting new. Remove one battery and put one new then remove another like one by one .If you are doing by this practice the MEMORY of your calculator will not vanish ok. Take-care
