abandoned religion? One of the things that bugs me about Hollywood is that they pander to the masses even if it means disrespecting revered source material. It's pretty much the same on television. All the controversial topics have been introduced, but atheism remains "hush, hush. Even in progressive shows like Star Trek, religion is mostly glossed over, and there are almost never any atheist "heros" (though at least they portray the primitive Klingon race as being ridiculously superstitious and preoccupied with deities.)

The best case scenario is religion is simply never mentioned in TV or film, and the worst case is the characters carry around whatever the prevailing religion is in the country the film is made..

actually, the Bible foretells that the United Nations will turn on religion and that religion will in fact be banned worldwide

Simple: They know where the money comes from.

It comes from people so sappy that they buy toast off of ebay for thousands of dollars because it's scorched with some vague image that looks like jesus or mary, even though nobody knows what they looked like in the first place.

If something is for sale that you can stick with the tag "christian", you can move the decimal point 1 or 2 places to the right.

We'll see an accurate portrayal of the future when someone actually travels into the future and tells us what it's like. Until then, science fiction is speculative at best.

We don't know what the future of religion will be.
.

Basically something like Star Trek without the token religions it had? You are right, that is about as close as it got.

Futurama maybe?

Brian has a really good example of a good movie like that.
But you are right, there are almost no movies on the subject and the other one that I can think of that comes close to what you are saying is Religulous with Bill Maher. That is what you would call a great movie! :D
But anyway, I think that society shouldn't avoid the "taboo" subjects like religion.

EDIT: The Mist had the best portrayal of a religious woman that I could come up with! I really wanted to kill that bi*ch and was so satisfied when she died!

An accurate portrayal would be the USSR.

When atheism gains control of a nation mass murder and denial of basic human rights *always* follows. Look at the USSR, Cuba, and China as good examples.

Christians are never portrayed as heroes by Hollywood. They are always the villians.

Freedom From Religion and other atheist hate groups would try to sue anyone who accurately portrayed an atheistic society.

I don't think you will see an accurate portrayal ever come out of Hollywood. Hollywood is dominated by liberals who love atheism and hate Christianity.

Maybe you should call up Hollywood and tell them that your Magical Atheist Powers let you see the future, and they've got it totally wrong.

If they do, they'll get hit with a 5-scale shitstorm from a bunch of churches.

How can it be accurate when we don't know what it will be like.

Futurama does have an interesting episode where they discuss a Star Trek religion being banned.
