Where are my pictures and songs?

I am an advanced PC user. I have 1000's of pics categorized and problem 300 CDs, including music, covers, all available data.The files are still where they are suppose to be and the album covers even have the pictures, on them, but ALL the files say empty. They were there earlier today, Where are they now? Search turns up nothing. This is the most unexplainable thing to ever happen to me. Hopefully someone will recognize the problem.
