As for getting any item connected to or part of the TV, DVR, PVR or anything close to that there is no really good solution for that.....

Best all-round bet are items like the WD Live TV Plus if you want YouTube access and Netflix it will cost a few bucks. The other is what most end up getting the WD Media Player cheap good and solid.
Here si WDs re-certified parts and hard drives and players

Or at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_15?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=wd+media+player&x=0&y=0&sprefix=wd+media+player
I just bought one for my friend came in five days. As for other players yeah there are a lot why people like the WD it plays just about any file you throw at it I have had only one file from a series that did not play .Ogg even though WD says they played it was a file format that not even my Network Media Tank could not play the ioBox100HD.

There lots to choose from just remember if you do buy a Media Player which you connect to the TV which is better as TV Media Players can not be updated also if they go bad well there it goes.
What to look for is the Sigma Chip as that is the most updatable Chip on the market it started with Popcorn Hour the first NMT player and Media Player. WD jumped in and has been doing well the last two years.
Hope that helps you out.......OH DO NOT BUY THE PASSPORT HARD DRIVE you can use any type of hard drive the passport is over priced and doesnt really hold a lot. Most use a WD or Seagate HD and connect that to the WD or other player. The Seagate player does allow a Hard Drive in the bay yet the chip is not that good and the audio converters are not there as well and the reviews are dismal.....

Hope this answered you question even though I went over the top............
