Here's what happened. September 2009... old computer's ethernet card dies. A previous acquaintance shows me the cost for new card is equivalent to purchase price of refurbished desktop w/ Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3. I say fine, give him the money, computer arrives w/in the week, he brings it over, it works just fine. It does comes pre-installed with the embedded i386 folder to be used for re-install & recovery purposes so NO INSTALL DISCS OF ANYKIND ARRIVE WITH THE COMPUTER. I have zero complaints.
I then wish to add a dvd burner. Same acquaintance shows me where to find one that is just dandy and affordable. I find the included software to be a monstrous strain on my 40GB HD w/ 512MB RAM. The acquaintance comes to my aid to tweak and fix... and eventually lots of (seemingly at that time) non-essential programs and files plus Explorer. Files, folders, programs start disappearing while he works and it is eventually dawning on me this guy is a disaster happening to me. He does know much more than I (especially at the time) in computer matters so this truth is slow to awaken in me.I do figure it out, then I figure out how to get him to MOVE AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER. He leaves, I download Explorer, we eventually lose touch with each other, I miss the missing (seemingly) non-essential stuff but carry on because I am not 'needing' the missing stuff yet, don't know what to do about it, don't know who to ask about it, don't have $$$ to
bring in professionals who would actually cost waaayyy more than the computer itself.
Time passes. It's now April 2010 and I find that I do need to recover all the missing files, folders, and programs. Have the computer. Do not have install discs and find now THE i386 FOLDER IS MISSING, part of the havic reeked upon me by acquaintance who lost all those other files, folders, and programs.
How do I get folder i386 so I can re-cover/install all that has gone missing?
